Meet Karina

Operations assistant

"If you have the will and desire to try new things, there are many development opportunities here."

Karina is an operations assistant on the night shift in 'Cutting and boning'. As the name suggests, this is the department that is responsible for cutting and boning the fresh chickens after slaughter, before the next stage of production. Karina works permanently on the night shift, which runs from 9:00 PM to 6:45 AM. The two assistants are employed here, who, together with the department manager, are responsible for the daily management of the department's approximately 35 production employees.

What tasks do I have at ROSE POULTRY?

As an operations assistant, I am an intermediary between the employees in production and my department manager. My tasks are diverse. I am responsible for the daily production planning. I make staffing plans, rotation plans and holiday plans and call in temporary workers when needed. I am also responsible for the daily follow-up of our KPIs, including safety, yield, quality, efficiency and waste.

In addition, I am responsible for making any adjustments to production on a daily basis. I must be able to make quick decisions when we suddenly need 300 kg of breast fillet, or when a customer needs 30 kg extra of a certain product right now. Then we must be creative and be able to re-saddle production quickly and efficiently. That is also one of my tasks. As an operations assistant, I am also responsible for creating a good working climate in the department, including ensuring a high level of information and motivation in the department and ensuring that everyone thrives. Finally, I am also responsible for training new employees.

What do I get out of the job as a person?

Lots of personal and professional development. I have a boss who is good at giving me new challenges. He is good at sensing where I am and good at giving me a loving nudge and pushing me into new tasks at exactly the right time.

If you have the will and desire to try new things, there are many development opportunities in ROSE POULTRY, regardless of where you work in the company. Here you are not just 'one on the floor'. For my own part, I have asked to take the course "Leadership in Practice" to become even better equipped to lead my colleagues in production. I have already taken a basic management training course, which is enough to a certain point when I have to motivate my colleagues to be ready for change, for example if production suddenly shuts down and we have to change the staffing plan and shuffle everything around. But I could be even better. That's why I'm super happy that my needs are recognized by my manager, and that I now have the opportunity to take an extra course that will enable me to become an even better manager.

The most important reasons why I work at ROSE POULTRY?

It's the colleagues I'm surrounded by, and good management that develops me and values me. I started coming here to the factory 12 years ago. At that time, I worked as a cleaning assistant for an external company that was responsible for the cleaning in the administration here at ROSE POULTRY. I wanted new challenges and was lucky enough that my current boss offered me the opportunity for this job. I've always felt that ROSE POULTRY was my workplace because I cleaned here and knew the employees, and it was nice to be here. So it was a natural change.

When I come to work, I'm met by happy colleagues who greet me and smile. The atmosphere is good and my colleagues are welcoming. The good community makes me happy and makes me want to give it an extra push every single day.

I also feel very appreciated here, and that means a lot. We have a management that is good at celebrating small and large successes and showing their recognition and respect for our work. This can be by, for example, serving cake in the canteen to celebrate a quarter without accidents or serving rolls to celebrate low sick leave. And this summer we all received a summer holiday goodie bag with 'We Care' gifts. These are small and large recognitions that warm up everyday life and make me proud to work at ROSE POULTRY.
